The Romero Trust was delighted to be part of a pilgrimage to Holy Island.

The joint pilgrimage with CAFOD took place on Lindisfarne on Saturday, 8 July 2023. It was a chance to reflect and pray, and be inspired by St Oscar Romero.

Around 40 people walked across the causeway to the island, stopping to reflect and pray together, using the lived experiences of the Ramos Family who live in Puentecitos, Western El Salvador, followed by quotes from Archbishop Oscar Romero. You can download a copy of the reflections used HERE.

As well as gathering together, sharing food and stories, the day finished with Mass in St Mary's Church on the island. The main celebrant was Fr Chris Hughes. Fr Jim O'Keefe preached the homily in which he challenged everyone to be a living witness, inspired by St Oscar Romero, and reflecting on the CAFOD 'Fix the Food System' campaign, urging the UK government to protect the right of farmers around the world to use their seeds.

You can read or download Fr Jim's homily HERE.

Plans are already afoot for the second pilgrimage to Holy Island, to take place in 2024, provisionally on Saturday, 13 July. More details to follow.
