Celebrating Romero this September

There are three events this September celebrating the life and legacy of St Oscar Romero. 

Sunday, 10 September begins a series of sermons at Westminster Abbey marking the 25th anniversary of the unveiling of the statues above the Abbey's Great West Door. The Sermon Series, The Noble Army of Martyrs, will focus on each of the ten modern martyrs depicted above the doors. The first sermon, during the weekly Sunday Evensong at 3pm in the Abbey, focuses on St Oscar Romero. On Thursday, 28 September at 6pm there will be sung evening prayer at St George's Cathedral, Southwark, to mark the 10th anniversary of the Romero Cross, housed in the National Shrine of St Oscar Romero. The service will be led by Most Rev. John Wilson, Archbishop of Southwark. The preacher will be the Very Rev. Dr John Hall, former Dean of Westminster Abbey. For more information, please click HERE.

And on Saturday, 30 September there will be a walk to celebrate the 175th anniversary of St George's Cathedral, Southwark. The walk will begin at 2pm at St George's Cathedral, which houses the National Shrine of St Oscar Romero. The walk will last around 90 minutes and take in the history of the cathedral and surrounding area of Southwark Bankside. It will end at St George the Martyr in Borough High Street. The walk will be led by Jenny Rossiter of the Lambeth Tour Guide Association. The walk is free, but donations are welcome towards the Romero Trust. For more details, please click HERE.
